Decorative Concrete Gives Any Property A Distinctive Look

By Ronald Green

Using concrete to pour a driveway will add property value and raise the resale price in the future. Plan it to be as narrow or wide as the homeowner chooses. It will be more functional than other surfaces. When you use decorative concrete the entry way to your home will be impressive.

What was once limited to a white or gray expanse can now be made in a distinctive pattern or color. Or, it may combine both. The home with green shutters can be accented with a matching color driveway and patio.

In Kansas City MO there are many houses that feature fancy sidewalks leading to the front porch. They may also wind through yards full of beautifully blooming flowers. A garden path matching the pattern and hue of the patio gives a distinctive appearance to the property.

Walking through the garden will be enjoyed without worrying about walking in mud during the rainy season. It will be convenient after a rainy night. Raised flowerbeds make gardening more convenient, especially for older people.

The raised flowerbeds can use decorative colored concrete in a tone that matched the pathway. Alternatively, it can be made to look like brick on the house itself. Another possible decorative feature is stamped concrete.

Stamping is done by pressing a form into the surface prior to allowing it to dry. It can take on the appearance of any type of bricks. They can be large segments with a swirl pattern in each segment. They can be small to look like cobblestones.

A patio surface might be made to look like individual red bricks. It can be poured in any number of shapes and sizes. A protective finish can be applied after drying. Put a row of solar lights along one side to give the surface a glow after dark.

Another designer look is obtained with a stain. There is an acid stain or a water based stain available. Either can be done using a color. The contractor will show samples of how it will look when it is finished. Customized blended colors are a possibility for something unique.

Interior floors are attractive when stained. Rich color will have a variegated look and a shiny patina when finished. Until recently all was done in earthy tones. The choices have been extended to the blues, the greens and even the bright yellows and oranges.

A higher number of hues are available in the water based stains. Orange and yellow are found as well as black and white. The most discerning homeowner will find something that he likes. Many distinctive colors are available with acid staining.

A room with deep blue walls between a white concrete floor and a white ceiling will be striking. Hang pictures of snowy scenes or polar bears for a decorator touch. White furniture and a blue area rug will set this room apart from the ordinary.

Whether for an indoor floor or an outdoor patio, decorative ideas are endless. You can have raised garden beds to match the brick pattern of the patio. A front porch and walkway can be stamped or stained any pattern or color. You can put together a distinctive combination that is unique to your home.
