By Debra Hall

It is normal to have worms in the system of an animal. However, if the population increases so much, it may be dangerous. As it is, if you neglect them, the animal will most likely keep of deteriorating in health until perhaps it dies. This is if you continually overlook the essence of horse wormers. Being the good owner you are, you should take full responsibility. The good news for the animals is that if you are caught neglecting them, you will have a case to answer. Do not allow it to get to this. The signs that should tell you that the animal needs attention are given herein;

It is always good to know the normal behavior of your pony. This is what will make you detect a problem when the animal stops behaving normally. One of the things can be evident is their stool. Normally, it should look like hay. When these changes and you start observing different stool, then it could be evident that worms attack your mare.

Observe when the health of the animal is affected. Sign of malnourishment will be so evident. This is because of the profound internal effects that the parasites cause to the animal. If you allow the animal to stay for longer without administering wormers, you will be doing more harm than good. In fact, it may lead to the death of your horse if it intensifies so much. Even as you would consider getting a vet come in handy, always consider at the back of your mind whether you are doing it right in de-worming.

Constant reduction of weight is also a sign that the animal needs to de-worm. Usually, when the parasites accumulate in the body, they make the lack animal appetite. If you observe that your pony is almost always not feeding, you need to reconsider administering wormers. As a sign also, they tend to diarrhea a lot. This is because of some permanent damage caused on some of the internal organs. Failure to take precaution will render your pony dead. Take caution so that this never happens to you.

There are those people who release their animals to graze in the outfields. This tells you that they are more exposed to worms as compared to those that feed under the controlled field. If you have such kind of an animal, the de-worming should be constant.

Apart from observing all the other symptoms given, you need to have a program. Having it is not enough, though. You should follow on it to the letter. If you tether your stallions, you should know how often it will require you to de-worm. Remember there are various types of worms that affect the animals. Each species has the duration that they take to mature. This tells you that a vet may be necessary at times. If you realize that the condition keeps worsening, you could call the vets. They would be in the best position to identify the problem and give you a long-term solution for the same.

Cleaning up is also an essential. Ensure that from time to time their places are cleaned. Also, it is good to ensure that the droppings on the paddocks are removed. For relatively small paddocks you can have the manure removed in about every two weeks. Also, if the stallions are many and in some relatively small paddocks, you may be required to do the cleanups quite often. This will just require you to observe.

Do not allow your mare to suffer. Maintain their good health. It is your sole responsibility. The bodies that protect the animal rights would never let you go scot-free if they realized you neglected your mare.
