This is so because for many, they embody the ideal mixture of convenience and beauty.

The moth-like appearance of the petals accounts for the name of the flower. In fact, the name, in part, originates from the Greek Phalluna which means moth. The delicate petals have a soft and velvety texture making the flower seem even more moth like. A breed consisting of approximately sixty species, this flower has wowed its way into the hearts of many around the world.

These flowers whose scientific name is Phalaenopsis come in a wide array of colors. These colors include green, purple, orange and pink. Additionally there are some varieties that feature an intricate pattern of shades. This makes the plant quite appealing to those who love variety. For decorators they are like a painters palette, source from which endless color combinations can be found.

This specie of orchids is clearly a decorator's dream. The many colors and patterns make them the ideal tool to enhance formal and informal environments. Wedding decorators in particular, find the plant very helpful in creating the perfect celebratory atmosphere for celebrating nuptial bliss. They look absolutely amazing on the bride's arm as her bouquet and just as astonishing as center pieces on the tables at wedding receptions.

Even though they are quite exotic in appearance, the flowers need very little support to survive and this is one reason modern day flowers lovers love them so much. Low maintenance is a very important quality in today's fast paced environment. The flowers are perfect as they flourish well with limited attention and never fail to provide astounding beauty.

The ideal environment for a Moth Orchid is a tropical one. The plant also prefers limited light setting, another feature that makes it ideal for household use. The ideal indoor location would therefore be a spot that admits a low amount of light. The low demand for light makes the plant very convenient for home owners who crave the tropical aura they provide but live in non tropical climates. UV lighting can be used to substitute for sunlight in sun deprived settings.

Like other plants the Moth Orchid needs water. Due to the fact that it only has one stem though, it is unable to store sufficient water to sustain itself for long periods. This means frequent watering is important to its survival. This is addressed using simple methods such as a drip watering contraption. A simple version of this sis a bottle punctured to allow small amounts of water to seep out.

The Phalaenopsis is definitely and amazing plant. It brings with its petals, beauty, elegance, variety and an addictive tropical aura and does not require a lot of work. In short, it is the horticulturalist's dream flower.
